Abstract: This research explores the relationship between images and texts in the Arabic textbook Al-'Arabiyah Bayna Yadaik Level 1A, specifically focusing on chapter 4. The study analyzes 138 images from the book using the visual semiotic framework of representational meaning by Kress and Van Leeuwen. Al-'Arabiyah Bayna Yadaik is designed for beginner Arabic learners, and this research examines how the images and their accompanying texts interact to convey meaning. The goal is to analyze the multimodal relationship between pictures and writing, focusing on how these elements combine to build the meaning in the textbook. The findings indicate that 92 out of the 138 images maintain a corresponding meaning with the text, while 40 images require additional interpretation to fully explain the material. Six images were identified as having conflicting meanings with the text. In terms of positioning, 92 images exhibited a balanced relationship between text and image, 41 images showed the text's meaning as more dominant, and 10 images indicated that the image's meaning took precedence. The study concludes that the use of multimodal elements in chapter 4 of Al-'Arabiyah Bayna Yadaik is effective, with most images aligning meaningfully with the text, supporting a cohesive learning experience for beginners.
