Abstract

Language is a complex human capacity that depends on the interaction of neural, sensory, cognitive, motor, and social systems. This article examines the biological basis of language from a psycholinguistic perspective and explains its implications for language disorders, diagnosis, intervention, and Arabic language learning. The study used a qualitative library-research design. Data were drawn from academic books, handbooks, and journal articles on psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, the neurobiology of language, aphasia, dyslexia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, stuttering, developmental language disorder, and second-language learning. Sources were identified, selected, classified, and analyzed descriptively and critically through three analytical focuses: the relationship between language, brain, and mind; the biological components supporting language; and the educational and therapeutic implications of language disorders. Source triangulation was applied by comparing foundational theories with recent empirical findings. The review shows that language is not controlled by a single cerebral center but by distributed networks involving frontal, temporal, parietal, and subcortical regions, together with auditory processing, articulatory-motor coordination, working memory, attention, and linguistic experience. Disruption in one or more components may affect comprehension, production, reading, writing, articulation, or communicative fluency. The findings also indicate that similar observable errors may arise from different underlying mechanisms; therefore, diagnosis and intervention should be multidimensional rather than based only on surface performance. In Arabic language learning, difficulties in discriminating unfamiliar phonemes, producing makharij al-huruf, reading unvowelled texts, and applying morphological or syntactic rules may involve phonological representation, working memory, attention, and procedural automatization. The article contributes an integrated biological-psycholinguistic framework that encourages adaptive, gradual, diagnostic, and humane language instruction while supporting collaboration among teachers, clinicians, families, and learners.
