This article explores the development of modern Arabic literary criticism, which has emerged in response to social, political, and intellectual transformations in the Arab world since the nineteenth century. Modern Arabic literary criticism is marked by the incorporation of Western critical theories that have been critically adapted to the Arab cultural and intellectual context. The discussion focuses on the historical development of modern Arabic literary criticism, Orientalist criticism, Arab feminist criticism, structuralism, post-structuralism, and postcolonial criticism. This study employs a qualitative research method using a library research approach. Data are collected from authoritative books and peer-reviewed academic journal articles and analyzed through a descriptive-analytical method. The findings demonstrate that modern Arabic literary criticism has made a significant contribution to the field of Arabic literary studies by offering more contextual, critical, and theoretically informed perspectives.
