Framing Pemberitaan LGBT Pada Media Online Detik.Com

The Indonesian society tends to view gender and sexuality through a binary lens, categorizing them as male and female, with heterosexuality considered the norm. However, the existence of other gender identities, such as those included in the LGBT group (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender), is often regarded as taboo and rarely discussed. Globally, LGBT identities have been widely recognized, although discussions about them in Indonesia often spark controversy. Mass media, including online platforms, play a significant role in shaping public perceptions of these issues. This study aims to analyze the framing of LGBT-related news by the online media Detik.com, using the Pan and Kosicki framing analysis model, which encompasses four structures: syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical. This approach helps to understand the media’s perspective in selecting, organizing, and presenting news related to LGBT issues. Online media was chosen as the focus due to the shift in information consumption from print to digital platforms driven by technological advancements. Data indicates that online news readership in Indonesia continues to grow, making online media a primary source of practical and efficient information. The findings of this study are expected to provide insights into how media frame LGBT issues, influenced by their respective ideologies, while also fostering critical awareness in understanding media framing of sensitive social topics.
