Abstract

Interpersonal intelligence is a crucial competency for prospective educators, but there is a gap between the ideal demands of the profession and the reality in the field, where some students of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at IAIN Curup still show limitations. This study aims to (1) describe the process of developing interpersonal intelligence in PAI Study Program students in the Educational Psychology course, and (2) identify the factors that influence it. This study uses a qualitative approach with a field research type. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of five PAI students, a lecturer in charge of the Educational Psychology course, and the Head of the PAI Study Program. Data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with data credibility tested using source and technique triangulation. The results of the study show that: (1) The development process is systematic, starting from the students' internal motivation, followed by the formation of cognitive foundations through theoretical materials, and then internalized through interactive learning methods that function as a "social laboratory". This process produces a transformative impact in the form of increased self-confidence, collaboration, and empathy. (2) The main supporting factors are internal student factors (openness, growth mindset) and external factors in the form of a conducive learning ecosystem (the lecturer's role as a facilitator, a safe classroom atmosphere). The main inhibiting factors are students' lack of self-confidence and challenges in group dynamics. In conclusion, the Educational Psychology course, designed as a supportive ecosystem, has proven effective as a vehicle for the holistic development of students' interpersonal intelligence.
